Katya Tishkevich, a Belarusian artist-in-residence with Kulturvermittlung Steiermark, will present her work and the ongoing project she has been developing during her stay in Graz. Her residency project, 𝘋𝘦𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘳 𝘛𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘐𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘳 𝘗𝘰𝘦𝘵𝘳𝘺—an ongoing series of abstract watercolour works depicting distorted corporeal forms—draws on her personal experiences of domestic abuse, displacement, and trauma flashbacks within the context of the political crisis in Belarus and the war in Ukraine.
Tishkevich’s presentation will take place within the space of Jasenko Rasol’s photo exhibition 𝘍𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘥, which warns against the rise of fascism in Central European societies and documents the „Balkan Route“, depicting the traces of people who must hide in order to survive.
Hosted at Off_gallery (Griesgasse 31)—the very street leading to the steirischer herbst festival 𝘙𝘦𝘥 𝘍𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘴 exhibition venue —Tishkevich’s personal encounter with ‚red flags‘ creates a poignant echo of the festival’s overarching theme.
