Die 1890 in Graz gegründete sozialdemokratische Zeitung Arbeiterwille strebte über einen Zeitraum von 44 Jahren die Emanzipation der Arbeiterklasse durch Selbstorganisation, Widerstand und Ausbildung an, bevor sie verboten wurde. Ausgehend von dieser historischen Zeitung fokussiert der künstlerische Beitrag in Form einer Video- und Soundarbeit, einer Aquarellserie, einer Wandzeichnung und Lichtskulpturen die heutigen Möglichkeiten des kollektiven Handelns inmitten neoliberaler und globaler techno-klimatischer Veränderungen.
Zuletzt hat die Pandemiebekämpfung die Flexibilisierungs- und Automatisierungsprozesse des digitalen Kapitalismus beschleunigt, die nicht nur Apathie, Entfremdung und soziale Isolation zur Folge haben, sondern auch die Bedingungen kollektiven Handelns verändern. Woran lässt sich heute ein Arbeiter:innenwille als Basis für Gemeinschaftsbildung festmachen? Eine diskursive Installation zeigt, was sich hinter den medialen Darstellungen der Hightecharbeit verbirgt, und fragt nach neuen Möglichkeiten der Kollektivierung der politischen Aktion.
The social democratic newspaper Arbeiterwille, founded in Graz in 1890, promoted the emancipation of the working class through self-organization, resistance, and education over a period of forty-four years before being banned. Using this historical publication as a starting point, the artistic contribution encompassing a video work, a sound piece, a water-color series, a wall drawing, and light sculptures focuses on the current possibilities for collective self-understanding in the midst of neoliberal and global technological and environmental changes.
Most recently, the fight against the pandemic accelerated the process of flexibilization and automation of digital capitalism, which has not only led to apathy, alienation, and social isolation, but has also changed the conditions of collective bargaining. How can we identify an Arbeiterwille (worker’s will) as the basis for community building today? A discursive installation demonstrates what is hidden behind media representations of high-tech work and poses the question of new possibilities for collectivization and political action.
