Daniel Jurjew was born in former Leningrad and came to Germany at the age of two with his parents, the writers Oleg Jurjew and Olga Martynova. Jurjew has been working as a freelance literary translator, writer, and journalist since 2012. His translation of Vsevolod Petrov’s “Die Manon Lescaut von Turdej” won the 2013 Hotlist Prize for independent publishers. J. is a finalist in the 2020 open mike competition and received a project grant in 2020/21 as part of the “Hessen kulturell neu eröffnen” support program. In the summer semester of 2022, he held a guest lectureship at the University of Trier funded by Neustart Kultur and the German Translators’ Fund.
